Work-Week Style

For years, it has been a dream of mine to move to D.C. I honestly love EVERYTHING about it and even the worst days here seem so much better than some of the best I had in Florida. There is only one thing that really gets to me at times and that is the fashion here.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that people don’t dress well, but as a lover of all things trendy and fashionable, working for a law firm and government, I feel like Elle Woods in a place flooding with suits. landscape-1430321720-elle-woods.jpg

During the winter, this seemed okay since the weather was a bit gloomier, but with spring in full swing in the District, I decided it was time to bring out the playful stuff in my closet for a little action.

Hopefully, some people can find some inspiration in my outfits and the pop of color. But if you can’t, I included some darker stuff for you to work with as well!

I loooved this outfit because I really felt like it encompassed some great spring colors but I also felt like a boss. Best of all, the materials all let you BREATHE but still cover you up so even if its chillier in the morning and sunny by noon, the outfit will be great for the varying weather.

I also enlisted my friend and personal photographer Tiara for help. As a law school student and young professional in D.C. she also understands managing a hectic schedule and looking fab can be tricky. But I asked her to compile a couple outfits that made her feel empowered an fashionable.

I really loved the way she paired some really girly pieces like the shoes and sheer top with a the denim jacket to change the look up a bit.

Dresses are great because all you need to do is throw them on and with a little make-up and your hair done you look totally put together and like you’re trying but it’s totally effortless. This wrap dress screams spring without being too loud because of the pattern but is still appropriate for the office. Paired with some nude heels and a dainty necklace and you’re ready to take on the world.

This outfit is amazing for gloomier days when it’s cloudy or rainy but you still want to look stylish – or if you’re me and think black is actually the happiest color. Both the pants and top are light and extremely breathable, and the strappy sandals and blazer give the outfit a boost to take it from casual to work-wear. Best of all, POCKETS. I am a sucker for anything with pockets so I can easily reach for my keys, metro card or cell-phone.

My love for this ensemble is endless – it’s perfectly spring-y and feminine but still timeless.

I truly love the mix of the scallops on the dress with the light pink color of the coat. This coat is lightweight and is meant to be open so it compliments what you wear under instead of overshadowing it.

This outfit is a little darker but I love the pop of trend you get from the bows on the sleeves and by switching up the shoes from regular pumps to these cross-strap pumps. This outfit is so feminine but not overly out there.

And as you can see, I loved the dress so much I wanted to find different ways to incorporate it so I also threw a pencil skirt over it for versatility. This dress was stretchy and flattering in the all the right places!

***A special thanks to Le Tote for supplying some of the pieces for my outfits ***
