As the weather in D.C. begins to warm up, I can’t help but imagining what Miami is feeling like this time of the year and what I would’ve been doing if I were still living there. If you’ve never been to D.C., (or didn’t have much time to explore the food scene here) you should know its nothing short of great. Still, the weather has me reminiscing on my favorite Miami spots where I would spend warm summer days and nights. Whether I was out for my lunch break, quick bite after a workout, or any other occasion, these 3 places are a staple in my book. If you’re in Miami, check ’em out!
1. La Sandwicherie
Staring with one of my personal favorites – La Sandwicherie. I have been eating at this venue since I was around 6 years old and to this day it’s my go-to spot whenever I’m
in South Beach. This little french-owned sandwich bar may look pretty simple to the onlookers but the food is absolutely to die for. There is rarely a time when this place isn’t completely packed but who can blame them? Their delicious pâté baguettes (and vinaigrette), fresh fruit juices and espressos are enough to take you on a ride to the streets of France, if only for a moment.

2. Under the Mango Tree
Hidden between Euclid Avenue and Meridian Avenue in South Beach you will find a little slice of paradise. At least, this is what I thought when I ran across Under the Mango Tree. Offering a range of items from coffee and tea to juices and bowls, sandwiches and baked goods (all organic) and even locally made satchels, soy candles and all sorts of other ornaments for your home, this place will be a great place to cool off after enjoying the warmth of the beach, to share with friends or indulge on your own. Aside from supporting locals it has started selling “charity smoothies” to support the education of a child abroad. The locale was inspired by Patricia Olesen – the owner’s – passion to show the world its the little things that matter and I believe it does just that. While a tiny shop in a very big city, everything they sell is carefully made and crafted so that the shopper will leave if only with a little love in their heart. See for yourself, it is best described by Patty as “Cozy, unexpected, and most importantly healing…”
3. The Local
I’m always looking for a new place to go on a date so that Dustin and I can keep things fresh so I was ecstatic to find this gem and even happier after eating here. The Local puts a wonderful spin on Southern cooking with a splash of Miami spice. They offer locally sourced and rotating craft beers as well as craft wine and spirits – all displayed on their chalkboards which are updated daily. If this isn’t enough to draw you in, the atmosphere sure will. A midst (modern Miami) the Local will show you a cozy atmosphere with that familiar pub atmosphere.
